Germany and Don Bosco strengthen vocational training

Germany has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the Philippines with the inauguration of new training facilities at Don Bosco Technical Institute in Makati. The initiative highlights the growing collaboration between German institutions and Don Bosco in preparing Filipino students for future opportunities in manufacturing, engineering, and automation.

The newly established Industrial Mechanic Room was developed through the cooperation of German pump manufacturer KSB, German carmaker Porsche, and Don Bosco Technical Institute. This facility is designed to support apprenticeship programs for industrial mechanics, equipping students with practical skills that meet global industry standards. German Ambassador Andreas Michael Pfaffernoschke, who attended the inauguration, emphasized the importance of vocational education in building a skilled workforce and underscored Germany's commitment to sharing expertise, resources, and technology to strengthen similar initiatives in the Philippines.

Germany is internationally recognized for its dual education system, which combines classroom learning with hands-on apprenticeships. This model has consistently produced highly skilled workers who are competitive in global industries. By investing in vocational training, Germany is helping pave the way for greater opportunities in key sectors such as manufacturing, engineering, and automation. The initiative not only enhances the employability of Filipino students but also contributes to the country’s long-term economic resilience.

On February 11, 2026, the partnership reached another milestone with the inauguration of the Johannes Klein Training Room, a project of Don Bosco One TVET Philippines and the KSB Foundation in Germany. Softly launched in July 2025, the facility is dedicated to empowering Bosconians with essential skills and knowledge to navigate the dynamic job market effectively. The ceremony was led by Fr. Jerry Santos, SDB, rector of Don Bosco Makati, and attended by representatives from Don Bosco One TVET, the KSB Foundation, students, and faculty members. Distinguished guests included Ambassador Pfaffernoschke and Fr. Ronilo Javines, SDB, provincial superior of the Salesians of Don Bosco-Philippine North Province.

In their remarks, Fr. Dindo Vitug, SDB, executive director of DB1TVET, and Mister Gerhard Bugla, chairman of the Board of Trustees of KSB Stiftung, highlighted the critical role of vocational training in today's economy and the shared commitment of both organizations to foster a culture of learning and development among students. The Johannes Klein Training Room represents a concrete step toward bridging the gap between education and employment, offering internationally recognized training programs that prepare Bosconians for successful careers.
