MoU signed between Oman Educational Services and DB Schenker

Oman Educational Services, OES and DB Schenker Logistics Campus MEA agreed to develop a Logistics Apprenticeship Training Institute which will introduce the country's first comprehensive training programs in the field of supply chain.

The two companies signed an agreement to expand Oman German Technology Solutions by offering logistics courses in cooperation with industry partner DB Schenker Logistics Campus MEA which will contribute expertise and experience to prepare young Omanis for careers in logistics professional profiles. All of this would be delivered at a high standard training institute, built on the German system of apprenticeships.

"What makes it special is that OGtech – as Oman's First Training Institute – follows Germany's widely respected model for dual-track vocational education," said Heiderose Moossen, Manager Vocational Training at OES. "DB Schenker Logistics Campus MEA contribution to the Omani society is deeply aligned with the values of our company: innovation, excellence and responsibility. We are proud to play a role in empowering the next generation of Omani technical specialists to succeed in careers in freight forwarding, warehousing, cargo handling, supply chain management, to name but a few."

The training program will start with 2 x 15 apprentices and gradually expand to meet the requirements of the growing Oman labor market. Graduates will gain valuable qualifications that will help them in the job market and throughout their careers. During the three-year program, apprentices will progressively spend less time in the classroom and more in on-the-job training, which gives a graduate technical expertise, qualified on Level 5, and a boost at the workplace when they start their first jobs after the program.

Richard van Schie, Managing Director of DB Schenker Oman (formally known as Schenker Khimji's LLC) in Oman, said, "The program gives us the opportunity to support and educate the Omani youth in Freight Forwarding and Logistics, as well as on fundamental business concepts, based on the successful vocational trainings that are running in, for example, Germany. The program is a good mix of education and practice on the job. With this initiative, we believe that we can support and grow the next generation of logisticians in Oman".

OGtech builds on DB Schenker's success with its affiliate company Campus MEA, based in South Africa, which renders similar vocational training courses.

Dr. Hussain Al Salmi, CEO of Oman Educational Services says, the institute will aim to reduce Omani youth unemployment and create a high-level competitive economy. "Our cooperation with DB Schenker Logistics Campus MEA is coming at the right time," he said. ‘"Oman German Technology Solutions (OGtech) as a new subsidiary of OES with a strong link to GUtech and our German and International partners, is a vocational training project, based on the successful German style Apprenticeship system, with a mission to instill Omani youth with in-depth, practical knowledge in preparation for careers in Oman's ambitious 2040 vision, where logistics plays an instrumental role for growth".

Dr. Hussain emphasized on the fact, that the next generation of the Omani labor force will be able to adopt and integrate transformative intelligent technologies into every area of business to optimize processes, make data-driven decisions, and promote innovation.
