80% of Emirati graduates still seek gov't jobs - survey
Eight out of ten newly graduated UAE nationals still prefer working in the
government sector despite efforts to encourage more to secure jobs in the
private sector, according to a new survey.
Flexible work hours, quality
of medical services provided by the employer, the number of holidays, the
flexibility of working from home and the overall work environment of the
organisation are some of major factors that the graduates factor in while
looking out for a job, the survey conducted by TASC Outsourcing revealed.
The
survey revealed that 52 percent of respondents were very optimistic in finding a
job after completing their education.
In terms of industry wise
preference, 22 percent said they want to be employed in a government owned
entity, with 12 percent seeking jobs in the Information Technology
sector.
Retail and Sales, Education and Fashion were the other sectors
that are of top billing among the respondents of the survey.
The survey
said respondents are ambitious with 65 percent seeking managerial roles with a
responsibility for a team of people.
Luke Eley, vice president of TASC
Outsourcing said: "It is interesting to see how the Emirati graduate thinks and
how their career aspirations are evolving. While we see great ambition among
this young population... there is also a remarkable resistance among them to
work in the private sector."
"There is a challenge here that needs
addressing. They are very optimistic about finding a job, which is a good sign,
but this is mostly in the government sector."
