Premium approach to Vocational Education for Thailand

Thailand is one of the most attractive investment destinations in ASEAN. In this context, the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce (GTCC) and its 500 member companies are committed to making all possible efforts to enhance competitiveness, investments and technology transfers in and to Thailand to ensure that this high standard is maintained. This will also help to strengthen the foundation for increasing market shares, profit and success.

Although a very good and willing working force already exists in the Kingdom, making further improvements in the vocational education system will be a crucial and necessary step towards producing more qualified mechanics, technicians and engineers.

With the involvement of the German Embassy, the Thai Ministry of Education and GIZ, GTCC has launched a German-Thai Dual Excellence Education (GTdee) programme in partnership with B. Grimm, BMW (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Robert Bosch, Ltd.

The programme is designed to base on the existing Thai system but enables active involvement of participating companies in the education process to assure highest standards and a clear premium approach. Collaborating closely with the private sector and GIZ, the GTCC works with the Office of Vocational Education Commission (OVEC) to review and design courses for selected vocational schools in Thailand.

GTdee students will have a balanced opportunity to study while gaining work experience from participating companies under contracts covering remuneration and scholarships during their apprenticeship. After two years of practice-oriented training in this programme, qualified technicians will receive a Diploma issued in Germany as well as a Thai Certificate.

The GTCC, serving as an official coordinating office of GTdee programme, is equipped with experienced and enthusiastic experts who are determined to bring dual vocational education in Thailand to the next level.

GTCC team is strongly convinced that, with a highly qualified workforce, Thailand will have a very good chance of maintaining its leadership in ASEAN. Fortunately, the Chamber receives the full support of its members who are also aware of the strategic importance of skilled and qualified labour, particularly as the introduction of the ASEAN Economic Community 2015 is just around the corner.

Given the benefits of this programme, the Chamber foresee that more and more German-Thai joint ventures as well as Thai companies will participate in order to ensure that a sufficient number of skilled and qualified employees are available to meet the growing demand.
