Successful Implementation of RENAC's Green Banking Project

The government of Indonesia has commited to increase its new and renewable energy supply to 23 per cent of its total energy mix by 2025. As per August 2018, new and renewable energy stood at 11.68 per cent – far from the intended goal. A lack of access to financing has been widely regarded as the major contributor to the slow progress of creating more renewable energy source, as well as realizing the various possible projects to increase energy efficiency.

In regards to the financing problem, RENAC, a German-based training for green energy technology, has been supporting the Indonesian government by taking capacity building efforts, in the form of trainings, on green energy and climate finance. This scholarship-based training was funded by the German International Climate Initiative (IKI) and was supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).

The project, which was initiated in Indonesia in November 2015, was completed on November 27-29, in which RENAC, in cooperation with EKONID, held the last capacity building training program at the Double Tree Hilton in Jakarta. Attended by 15 participants from public and private financial institutions, electricity producer, multilateral institutions, renewable energy developers and consultants as well as academic institutions, the 3-day training aims to promote financial schemes, project evaluation and mitigation support that will increase the bankability of sustainable energy project.

To conclude the successful implementation of the 3-year project, The Green Banking Alumni Conference will be held on March 19, 2019, in Jakarta. The conference is expected to become a platform for alumni, political partners and other interested parties to share their best practice and success stories in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency financing. Participants will be able to attend the conference as an audience, speaker or exhibitor.
