Three-step plan for technical colleges: MoM

H E Dr Muna bint Salim al Jardaniyah, Undersecretary for technical education and vocational training, Ministry of Manpower, has said that steps are being taken to implement the Royal Directives on admitting the highest possible number of male and female general diploma holders to technical colleges in 2011-12.

H E Dr Muna said the first step towards developing technical education focused on increasing infrastructure. "Master plans are ready. The ministry will approve modern technology systems that ensure speedy implementation and reduce cost, while maintaining the quality of the buildings. About 25,330sqm of area will be added to colleges of technology for new classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, service areas and offices."

As the second step, the ministry has approved new regulations on transfer of students at the achievement and diploma stages. "It has also approved new criteria for the English language level that allows enrolment in specialised programmes in different stages."

The third step, the development of human resources at the colleges of technology, will involve filling the academic and supporting posts with qualified Omani candidates.

There are plans to raise the level of specialised programmes, like the Certified Accounting Technician programme, to international standards. H E Dr Muna said it was being ensured that academic plans for various disciplines met market needs and bachelor's degree status.
