Oman LNG, OPAL sign pacts for vocational training of 160 citizens

Oman LNG and the Oman Society for Petroleum Services (OPAL) have signed three agreements that will see Oman LNG funding the training of 160 Omani candidates.

The agreements are in line with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said's Royal Directives to create jobs for Omani nationals, according to a press release. They specify that OPAL, with funds from Oman LNG, will coach 85 candidates in welding, mechanical maintenance and electrical training, and another 75 in AutoCad.

"These agreements are aligned with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos' Royal Directives to pay more attention to Omani youths and to equip them with skills needed for the job market. Together with the Ministry of Manpower, OPAL will facilitate the placement of these candidates. Such placement will help candidates to utilise their new-found talent profitably," said Dr Brian Buckley, general manager and chief executive officer of Oman LNG, after the agreements were signed.

Nick Pattison, CEO and general manager, signed the agreements on behalf of OPAL. OPAL will also coordinate with the Ministry of Manpower to ensure that all candidates secure employment upon the completion of their training programme, spanning a period of six months. Oman LNG will allocate RO442,250 for the agreements.

The training programmes are part of Oman LNG's human, resource development fund that targets the gaining of job skills necessary for the labour market. Oman LNG has funded 33 programmes in the past eight years, contributing to the recruitment of more than 1,200 Omanis.
