German TVET Model Delivers 80% Hiring Rate, Fast-Track Promotions In Malaysia
The German Dual Vocational Training (GDVT) model is delivering strong workforce outcomes in Malaysia, with 80% of graduates securing full-time employment and half promoted within a short period, according to the latest industry survey.
The Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MGCC) said its German Dual Vocational Training Employer Survey found that 66% of graduates outperform their non-GDVT peers, while 100% of employers reported strong cultural fit and recommended the programme.
The findings, based on feedback from companies across sectors such as advanced manufacturing, electronics and engineering, underscore the programme's ability to produce job-ready talent aligned with industry requirements.
Performance is evident even during training, with all employers rating GDVT trainees positively with 71.4% as “good” and 28.6% as "excellent". In terms of productivity, 42.9% of trainees were considered highly productive, while the remaining 57.1% were rated moderately productive, reflecting strong workplace readiness.
MGCC Executive Director Hannes Farlock said, the results demonstrate how industry-aligned training can accelerate career progression and strengthen Malaysia’s talent pipeline.
Beyond hiring outcomes, employers reported that GDVT graduates integrate quickly into teams, with 70% demonstrating strong problem-solving skills in real-world work environments. This has translated into faster onboarding, improved retention and early contributions to operational improvements.
The programme, which has been implemented in Malaysia for over a decade, is modelled on Germany's dual vocational training system widely regarded as a key driver of the country's industrial competitiveness, combining on-the-job training with structured theoretical education.
Participating companies in the survey include major industrial players such as Robert Bosch & B. Braun, among others.
