Competition: "Ideas Initiative Future"

The three winners of the German competition "Ideas Initiative Future" – the project group "Schools Network for Education for Sustainable Development" from Grevenbroich, "WERDE WeltFAIRaenderer" ("become a fair changer of the world") from Mainz and "Sustainable Development for All" from Bamberg – were awarded for their sustainable commitment for the world of tomorrow by the German commission for UNESCO and dm-drogerie markt at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris on June 3, 2011.

The cooperation partners dm und the German commission for UNESCO initiated the competition in 2010 to support people who locally campaign for sustainability. Interested people of all age groups were asked to submit their ideas and project proposals for the world of tomorrow. The response was overwhelming: More than 4,500 persons and project teams handed in their applications for "Ideas Initiative Future" from June to October 2010.

One of the three winners is the project team "Schools Network for Education for Sustainable Development" of the Pascal Secondary School in Grevenbroich. The project aims at the incorporation of all aspects of sustainability in all school subjects as well as extra-school activities.

In Mainz, the project group "WERDE WeltFAIRaenderer" raises awareness among young people that anyone can change the world by his or her thinking, behaviour and actions. This is illustrated in an obstacle course with various stop stations.

Members of the project "Sustainable Development for All" by the Bamberg association CHANGE e.V. aim at improving educational and life opportunities for people worldwide.

The German commission for UNESCO and dm have been involved together for the implementation of the UN Decade "Education for Sustainable Development" (2005-2014) since 2008. They will continue to support people and initiatives to shape the future and have therefore extended their cooperation agreement by another three years in September 2010.
