In every 11th couple in Germany, the woman has a higher education degree than her partner

Only 14 per cent of all couples obtain a low education level.

The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that 61 per cent of all couples in Germany consist of partners with the same or with a similar education degree. In 30 per cent of the couples the man has a higher degree than his partner.These are the results of the microcensus 2009, the largest yearly household survey in Europe.

In the group of couples with the same education degree almost 65 per cent obtain a medium education level. Among these are degrees which qualify for a vocational occupation. The categories "high", "medium" and "low" were defined accoding to the internationally comparable classification of the education sector "International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED)".
