"Germany’s best employers" - Minister von der Leyen highlights importance of continuing education

"Good employers offer good career prospects," said Ursula von der Leyen, Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, after Germany’s 100 best employers were awarded under her patronage.

When asked about the role of employers in times of economic crisis, von der Leyen emphasises that lifelong learning and staff orientation is of growing importance. "Good employers do not only offer job security for their employees, but also perspectives for the future – especially with regard to further education for senior employees."

By patronising the award, von der Leyen acknowledges the companies’ many creative ideas to motivate their staff. "Employees wish to get more from their work than just salaries. Recognition, respect, active participation and the opportunity to reach goals are of the same importance." At the same time, von der Leyen stressed that being a good employer is not just an end in itself. "Many of the most successful companies are very staff-oriented", she said.
