Successful cooperation with the Philippines acknowledged

State Secretary Thorben Albrecht received the Philippine Minister of Labour and Employment, Mrs. Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) on 22 March.

The main topic of their talks was the placement of Philippine nursing staff in Germany. State Secretary Albrecht underlined the particular significance of the exchange arrangements in place with the Philippines in this regard.

Because of a shortage of nurses, skilled workers from third countries are being afforded an opportunity to work in relevant professions in Germany. Especially against the background of a high level of youth unemployment, the Philippines have a strong interest in placing nursing staff in Germany.

At their meeting, State Secretary Albrecht and Minister Dimapilis-Baldoz stated that the results of cooperation between the two countries had been very positive thus far and emphasised that both parties intend to continue to collaborate closely in this area.

The minister also visited a number of other institutions beside the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in order to obtain a complete picture of the situation of Philippine workers on the German labour market.
