eLearning Africa: Education, innovation and partnership in Tanzania
From 7 to 9 May 2025, over 1,500 participants from more than 80 countries gathered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for the 18th edition of eLearning Africa. Preceding the trade fair congress, iMOVE spent three days visiting key players in vocational education and training with 16 German training providers.

Under the motto "Reimagining Education and Human Capital Development for Africa's Future Prosperity", the eLearning Africa trade fair congress offered a first-class platform for dialogue, innovation and cooperation in the education sector - with a particular focus on technological developments, vocational training (TVET - Technical and Vocational Education and Training) and inclusive education.
The preceding programme of visits enabled the education providers who had travelled with them to gain a comprehensive picture of the education market in Tanzania.
iMOVE visitor programme: Building bridges for educational cooperation
Prior to the trade fair congress, iMOVE organised an intensive programme of visits for a 16-members delegation of German education providers from 4 to 6 May.
Here, the education providers got to know key players in the Tanzanian education system, made contacts and explored potential for cooperation.

The programme included a briefing at the German Embassy, visits to the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) - which included an intensive exchange with Dr Fredrick Salukele, Director of Technical and Vocational Education and Training at the Tanzanian Ministry of Education - as well as talks with the University of Dar es Salaam, the Association of Tanzanian Employers (ATE) and the Goethe-Institut.
A special highlight of the visit programme was the visit to the Tanzanian Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC). The training providers took the opportunity to exchange information about the products and services of female entrepreneurs and the strengthening of business networks.
The visit programme gave the participants a comprehensive overview of the needs, structures and potential in the Tanzanian education system. iMOVE had designed the visit programme so that the education providers could take advantage of numerous valuable opportunities for exchange at eye level.
There are also signs of growing interest in Tanzania in the area of skilled labour recruitment: the Goethe-Institut's range of courses is registering increased interest in German courses.
Impulses in the conference programme - focus on vocational training
iMOVE was also able to provide key impetus in the conference programme: At the high-calibre panel discussion "Skills, Employability & Reforms to Make TVET More Effective and Inclusive", the Executive Director of Panworld Education, Raghavendra Manbol, led the exchange on innovation-oriented reform approaches in vocational education and training.
Among other things, the experts on the panel discussed the role of public-private partnerships, entrepreneurship in the vocational training sector and a stronger focus on the real requirements of the labour market.
In this context, iMOVE impressively demonstrated how German training providers can contribute to strengthening vocational education and training with practical concepts.
German Pavilion
Eleven German companies and institutions presented themselves at the trade fair in the German Pavilion, which was organised as part of the German government's foreign trade fair programme and managed by the didacta association.
The exhibitors at the joint stand presented innovative solutions "Made in Germany" and offered numerous points of contact for dialogue with African education stakeholders.
Voices from the delegation - positive feedback on the visit programme
The feedback from the participants underlines the great added value of the visit programme:
We have been connected with the key stakeholders in the Tanzanian education sector - iMOVE has built excellent bridges to maximise these opportunities.
The appointments gave me a comprehensive overview of the needs and potential in the education sector in Tanzania - that was a real benefit for our work.
I couldn't imagine a better start to a country.
The quality of the discussions and the targeted selection of visiting partners were outstanding - everything was perfectly organised.
The programme was strategically well put together. The combination of institutional visits and networking opportunities was particularly helpful.
The education providers who travelled with the delegation also rated the exchange within the delegation positively. The three-day trip together facilitated new connections between the participating education providers and helped to strengthen the network.
We look forward to seeing you again at eLearning Africa 2026 in Ghana!
