Schavan criticises education studies

Federal Education Minister Annette Schavan (CDU) has called into question the informative value of education studies.

"Those saying that the mere percentage of secondary school graduates with a university entrance qualification is an indicator for a good educational system are in the wrong", said Schavan. Education policy requires a "calm and consequent approach" and must not be guided by studies that are newly compiled each week.

Schavan emphasised the fact, that she regards vocational education as equal compared to other forms of educational degrees. "A human being's existence does not begin with a university entrance qualification. We must not be told that other forms of graduation are second class", she said. She continued to say that vocational education is very much a model especially as regards comparability within the educational system.
