Promoting professional qualification with German partners

iMOVE informs at the 4th Global Skills Summit in New Delhi from September 15th to 16th, 2011

In order to initiate and extend Indo-German projects in the training sector, iMOVE presents cooperation opportunities at the 4th Global Skills Summit. The event serves as a central platform for international dialogue on the modernisation of vocational education and training (VE&T) in India.

The theme of this year's summit is "Vocational Education & Training: Developing Strategic and Implementation Framework". The event is being organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in collaboration with the Indian Ministry of Labour & Employment at the Federation House, Tansen Marg, in New Delhi.

iMOVE organizes the German participation in two panel sessions on structuring Sector Skill Councils and on key initiatives in Germany. As an Institutional Partner, iMOVE features eleven German training providers with their cooperation offers at its exhibition stall.

iMOVE will also present additional information pertaining to Germany's capabilities in vocational training. Latest success stories regarding the cooperation of Indian and German partners in the field of VE&T will complete the presentations of iMOVE which all aim at fruitful Indo-German partnerships and business relations between educational institutions, training providers and enterprises. To this end, iMOVE also keeps an office in New Delhi.

Germany and India intend to expand their close cooperation in professional qualification. With its strong emphasis on employability, "Training - Made in Germany" can support the ongoing reform process of the Indian training system.

iMOVE and FICCI, therefore, jointly organize a special Indo-Germany workshop titled "German Vocational Education & Training in specific sectors - lessons for the formation of Sector Skills Councils in India" one day prior to the summit on September 14th. Four German training providers will report on their experiences and their contribution to VE&T in Germany pertaining to the sectors media & entertainment, construction, hospitality, and industry-oriented didactics.

In the 12th Five Year Plan skills development has been positioned as an obvious and urgent agenda cutting across all sectors. As India moves rapidly towards achieving ambitious economic and social targets, engaging the human resources for skills development will be critical for ensuring success as a knowledge economy.

For India the challenge magnifies due to unprecedented issues of scalability and multiple challenges in implementation. It is projected that 500 million people will require training for India's workforce by 2022. The country today requires a robust strategic framework which neatly links the existing initiatives and brings the stakeholders together. In the past few years, India has seen a surge in the number of initiatives from both government and industry to tackle the massive skills challenge.
