Pupils favour constructional engineering and body care

31 pupils of the 7th grade of the HRS and Pestalozzi School in Brake, Lower Saxony (Germany), participated in a career orientation programme of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB).

The education network Wesermarsch is in charge of the project; among the partners are the District Adult Education Centre, "Time and Service" and the District Craft Trades Association.

The programme starts out with a potential analysis which allows the pupils to gain knowledge about their skills and strengths. The girls and boys experiment in the areas of wood technology, constructional engineering, home economics, gastronomy, body care, metal technology and electrical engineering. This practical orientation enables the pupils to gather experience for their future tasks in the workforce at an early stage. Above all, the programme aims at facilitating their career choice.

As a matter of fact, the programme was well-received among the pupils. And whereas the boys preferred constructional engineering, the girls considered it rather boring and favoured the area of body care.
