According to the Federal Statistical Office (DESTATIS) there is a continuing trend during the last few years for more higher qualification among young people.
More and more young people apply for education programmes which offer a higher education entrance qualification.
In 2009 525,500 persons learned in such a programme which constitutes an increase of 15.6 per cent compared to 2005. The number of freshmen at universities has increased in the same period by 16.9 per cent to 428,000.
