WorldSkills Germany: Turning and milling winners travel to São Paulo in 2015

Turning and milling apprentices from all across Germany competed in the "WorldSkills Germany" professional skills competition in late September. This year, the event was hosted at AMB, the international exhibition for metalworking. The two winners, Tim Zelmer from Gildemeister and Patrick Aiple from Chiron, will represent Germany at the WorldSkills global competition in São Paulo in 2015.

The apprentices took part in a comprehensive qualification round in the run-up to the AMB and persevered against numerous fellow contestants in several competitions. The aspects of planning, accuracy and completeness were the main features of the decisive test.

More than 1,000 young people from over 60 countries and regions will compete for the respective world championship titles in various occupational disciplines at the WorldSkills in Brazil in August 2015. The range of occupations includes chefs, mechatronics and web designers. In the field of Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) technology, the two German participants will then have to demonstrate not only their knowledge of the latest types of machinery, but also that their performance meets international standards.

Yet top-level vocational education and training in the crafts and excellent CNC knowledge are important not only in the WorldSkills competition. Small and medium-sized enterprises in particular often have problems finding well qualified personnel. So why not provide tailored further training for the existing employees by way of the CNC license offered by the DEKRA Academy? The training concept is based on Europe-wide uniform criteria, works based on the existing knowledge of the employees, and supports them right through to the final examination.
