The "continent of opportunity", Africa has been the focus of activities for German business and government for some time. The training and continuing education of skilled workers is essential for the ongoing economic development in African countries.

Entitled "Shaping the Future of Employment", the first German-African Forum on Vocational Training and Education offers an opportunity to discuss and further develop joint initiatives to German companies and high-ranking guests from Africa in the training and continuing education sector. Private sector approaches and the German Federal Government’s current strategies relating to Africa will be discussed and presented in workshop formats.

The German-African Forum on Vocational Training and Education closely follows the "G20 Compact with Africa Investment Summit" which will take place for the second time under the patronage of the German Federal Chancellery. Delegations of ministers from countries of the G20 reform partnership "Compact with Africa" (CwA) are expected to attend the summit. The CwA countries currently include Ethiopia, Egypt, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Ghana, Guinea, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo and Tunisia. A high-ranking delegation from Kenya and guests from other African countries will also be in attendance.

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), also a training forum partner, will be present to introduce the "Special Initiative for Business and Employment", the objective of which is to support employment by means of training and private sector involvement.
