WorldSkills 2019: How Germany's candidate for polymechanics is training
A young industrial mechanic is travelling to the WorldSkills competition in Kazan to compete for Germany. Our competitor in polymechanics is working at Viega - and has been granted leave for the training.
Day in, day out, for months, he has repeated the following regime: read drawings; mill, turn and drill components; mount, connect and check parts; program control unit. And then start all over again "Boring? No it's never boring," says Franz Radestock (19) in a very relaxed manner, especially considering that he is working at a very high level. And, currently not for a customer, but for fame and glory. The young man is training for the world championships of vocational skills.
More than 1600 WorldSkills participants are expected in Kazan in Russia
In January, the industrial mechanic completed his training at the Viega plant in Großheringen (Thuringia). At the end of August he will be representing Germany at the WorldSkills competition in Kazan in Russia. More than 1600 young competitors from over 60 countries will compete in 56 skills.
In polymechanics, Radestock will face a dozen competitors. The favourites are the Brazilians. But he is confident. "Of course I want to win. It would be nice to give something back to my colleagues and the company for all their support."
