Weiherhammer/China: German training model for China

In Shanghai, 300 employees are to be trained in the metalworking and electrical sector in accordance with the proven model of German dual vocational education and training - this is the aim of BHS Corrugated Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH at its Chinese production site.

To achieve this, the intercompany education and training centre in Eastern Bavaria (ÜBZO) — in Weiherhammer is developing and trialling a concept for the introduction and ongoing development of company-based and school-based vocational education and training in China.

A total of eight trainers and managers are to be posted, within the period of the one-year mobility project CoACH-ME, to BHS Corrugated Machinery Co., Ltd., Shanghai to support the vocational education and training of the ÜBZO. The CoACH-ME project is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

In a first step, Sonja Prüll, head of the area University/Research /International Affairs at the ÜBZO, has already been to Shanghai to review the initial situation of vocational education training. The agenda for this included a vocational school visit, observation of practical, school-based workshop teaching and company-based training as well as intensive discussion with teachers and training managers. The project team at the ÜBZO then used this knowledge to develop the appropriate training and support provision.

The plan is for a second delegation to fly to Shanghai in the future. The role will be to train company-based coaches of master craftsmen and women in terms of methodology and didactics. In September, these coaches will then complete specialist practical training measures in the electrical and metalworking sector and further optimise their training.

Prof. Dr. Erich Bauer, General Manager of the ÜBZO commented: The results of this pilot project create a basis from which we can further expand our export activities in the area of dual vocational education and training in China.
