New OECD report on future-ready systems of adult education and training

The new OECD report "Getting Skills Right: Future-Ready Adult Learning Systems" uses a range of indicators to compare the situation in the countries investigated and identifies the key areas for reform in each country.

The world of work is changing. Digitalisation, globalisation and democratic change are fundamentally influencing the nature and type of jobs and the skills required in the labour market. The extent to which individuals, firms and economies can harness the benefits of these changes is critically dependent on the readiness of adult learning systems. This is because these help individuals in developing and maintaining the relevant skills throughout their professional careers.

The OECD has therefore developed the new Priorities of Adult Learning (PAL) dashboard. The dashboard compares the readiness of adult learning systems across the dimensions of urgency, coverage, inclusiveness, flexibility and guidance, alignment with skill needs, perceived training impact and financing. The dashboard focuses on adult learning that is job-related, that is to say training and continuing education expected to have some effect on performance and productivity at work.
