Bakers for Brazil

The Trier Chambers of Commerce support vocational education and training in Brazil.

The Trier Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) and the Chamber of Crafts and Trades (HWK) are seeking to help the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte to accelerate economic growth in the areas of renewable energies, skilled crafts and tourism/ hospitality and catering and thus contribute to creating jobs locally. Initial continuing education and training measures are underway.

The aim is also for courses to help trainers in Brazilian partner organisations gain an impression of vocational profiles and corresponding continuing education and training options in Germany. For this purpose, a two week intensive course on baking techniques has recently been organised for trainers in Natal. The participants should then be available in the coming year as key individuals who can disseminate information regarding comprehensive baker training in accordance with German standards.

The project for the vocational education and training partnership with Brazilian industry and employer associations is headed by the Europa und Innovationscentre Trier GmbH (EIC), funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development via sequa gGmbH and receives well-targeted support from the Rhineland-Platinate Ministry for Economy, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture.
In the area of renewable energies, training on project planning and on the operation of Biogas plants was recently provided by the biogas specialists Ökobit based in Föhren.

In collaboration with German and Brazilian experts, the aim is also to develop the tourism provision in a targeted manner as part of the partnership. Training will also take place in the hotel and catering sectors in close cooperation with the Trier Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Brazilian partners. Companies from Rhineland-Palatinate which are already locally based and companies planning market entry in Brazil, should, over the medium to long-term, be in a position to employ Brazilian workers in their companies on a permanent basis who have been trained according to German standards.

Since October 2015, EIC Trier GmbH has provided technical management for a vocational education and training partnership between the Trier Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Trier Chamber of Crafts and Trades, and Brazilian industry and employer associations. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development via sequa gGmbH.

The collaboration focuses on the areas of 'hospitality/catering/tourism' as well as 'renewable energies/energy efficiency'. Over the next few years continuing education and training measures will be implemented in Natal and in Germany. On the one hand, the project is intended to help provide school leavers and young people in Rio Grande do Norte with improved prospects in the Brazilian labour market.

On the other, companies from Rhineland-Palatinate, which are already locally based, and businesses planning market entry in Brazil, should be in a position to employ Brazilian workers in their companies who have been trained according to German standards on an ongoing basis. Pre-existing liaison office structures of Rhineland-Palatinate companies in the province of Rio Grande do Norte will be used for attracting suitable Brazilian participants for the vocational education training activities and subsequently so that they can be made available as qualified workers to Brazilian companies.
