Motivational boost for trainee vehicle mechatronics fitters in the district of Warendorf

BMW hands over a training vehicle with top class equipment for use at the training centre of the District Craft Trades Association.

The highest quality of service begins with well-founded vocational education and training. BMW AG is supporting the practically oriented inter-company training provided to young trainees in the vehicle craft trades in the district of Warendorf by providing an extensively equipped training vehicle in the form of a 220d Coupe.

"State-of-the-art technology is always on the curriculum in the workshop for trainee vehicle mechatronics fitters at the technicians at the training centre of the District Craft Trades Association in Beckum," explains Christopher Zumbült, head of the Warendorf Vehicle Guild. He is delighted that the new vehicle can be used for the practical teaching of the diverse knowledge and skills today's trainees need to acquire in the areas of diagnosis, maintenance and error rectification. "Modern cars contain so much technology and electronics that even training vehicles and workshop equipment need to be kept up to date at all times."

Frank Tischner, Managing Director of the District Craft Trades Association, also underlined that the donated vehicle, which was handed over at the L + K Hackelbörger dealership in Neubeckum, would be a valuable support and a good investment.

Around 150 young people are currently undergoing training in the specialist vehicle firms of the district. The occupation of vehicle mechatronics fitter remains the most popular training occupation in the craft trade, although this is a trade in which the requirements of training are immediately affected by rapid technological progress.

Mr. Tischner expressed his thanks to Frank Hoffmann from BMW, who handed over the keys to the vehicle and to modern VET: "It is only with the support of industry that we will be able to maintain and continue to increase the high level of training provided in the inter-company vocational training centres." The BMW AG representative emphasised that the training work that went on in the vehicle craft trades provided a basis for the future.

Mr. Hoffmann stated that skilled workers with good training in high voltage equipment would be required in craft trade workshops in future, particularly if electro-mobility was to be significantly increased over the coming years in line with the wishes of the Federal Government. The half-joking reminder that the training centre would then need another vehicle to learn on was greeted with a grin by Mr. Hoffmann, although he did not comment further.

In light of the multitude of technical sophistication offered by the BMW 220D, Mr. Tischner anyway expressed a high degree of satisfaction and gratitude. He is also sure that the donated car will act as a motivational boost for the trainees: "The young people will really enjoy working on such a great vehicle." There is only one aspect which will disappoint. "The car is only to be used for training purposes. No joyrides will be possible, since it is not registered for road use."
