"Campus Handwerk" strengthens vocational training in North Rhine-Westphalia and beyond

The Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Government Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Iris Gleicke, has stressed the importance of vocational education and training for the German industry during the topping out ceremony for the Campus Handwerk (Crafts Campus) in Bielefeld:

"Vocational training and continuing education are of decisive importance for the competitiveness of small and medium-sized businesses and the crafts. This is why the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy supports the crafts in the building, modernisation and equipping of communal vocational education and training centres.

The Campus Handwerk in Bielefeld is one of the largest investments in and for vocational education and training in Germany. Modern education centres such as this one contribute to safeguarding and expanding the high, internationally acknowledged quality of vocational education and training in our country."

The "Campus Handwerk" brings together under one roof various vocational education centres from several sites in East Westphalia-Lippe, uniting them in a modern, new building in the centre of Bielefeld. The Federal Office of Economics and Export Control funds the building with some 30 million Euro from out of the budget of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (about 60 per cent of total costs).
